How a Simple Frustration Became The Tee Clip®
Shane Wieters didn’t grow up dreaming of inventing golf gear. He spent a decade managing Guitar Center stores, then shifted into finance as a registered investment advisor. Golf entered the picture the way it does for many people in that world — as both a business tool and a new personal passion.
What he didn’t expect was how often the little things got in the way. Tees poking holes in his pockets. Digging around with a gloved hand while others waited. Tees falling out of his hat. Searching for a ball marker or divot tool at the wrong moment. After asking colleagues and finding the same complaints everywhere, and after searching the market and finding nothing that solved it cleanly, he decided to make something himself.
In early 2023 he started prototyping at home. The first versions were simple holders that slid onto a hat and held a single tee. They weren’t secure enough and weren’t practical. He kept refining — teaching himself the machining and manufacturing steps as he went — until the design clicked: a magnetic clip that attaches to a hat brim, belt, or waistband; patent-pending barrels that hold wooden or plastic tees of any length without falling out; a built-in ball marker with an alignment sight line he called A.I.M. (Align In Middle); and the ability to double as a divot tool.
He chose USA-sourced 304 stainless steel for its strength, corrosion resistance, and light weight. Each piece is laser-scored and cut, then hand-assembled in Southern California. Ball markers are hand-stamped. The finished product is packaged in a simple tin with a polish cloth and ready to use.
On September 9, 2023, Shane formed Lost Wedge™, LLC. On October 14, 2023, The Tee Clip went live on theteeclip.com and TikTok. The first sale took three days. Then demand grew quickly — the product sold out multiple times in the first two months. What started as a personal fix for himself and a few friends was clearly solving a real problem for many more golfers.
The line has grown since then. The MINI offers a more compact option. The Tether and Hip Clip give golfers who prefer belt or waistband carry the same secure hold. The Duo Clip adds an extra magnetic ball-marker position under the hat brim. The newer V.V versions include a removable magnetic divot tool and refined details. FlatBack impact-resistant tees, headwear, apparel, and custom branding for pro shops and clubs have followed. Core metal products remain USA-made, laser-worked, and hand-assembled.
Along the way the product has been covered by USA Today, Golfweek, CBS, and other outlets. Lost Wedge™ has exhibited at the PGA Show (including the Inventors Section), the PGA Buying Summit, and other industry events. Interest has expanded internationally. Customer feedback continues to shape new iterations.
